The Latasha Ellis Memorial Scholarship
Honoring Courage and Supporting Education at the “Walking the World Purple” Lupus Walk
Overview
Established in 2019, the Latasha Ellis Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of our dear friend, Latasha Ellis, who bravely fought against lupus. This scholarship serves as a tribute to Latasha’s enduring spirit and a way to keep her legacy alive within our community.
Purpose of the Scholarship
The scholarship aims to support educational pursuits. At the conclusion of each school year, a minimum of a $250 memorial scholarship is awarded to at least 1 High School Senior during the annual “Walking the World Purple” Lupus Walk, an event dedicated to raising awareness and supporting those affected by lupus.
Selection Criteria
- Recipient Selection: The Board of Directors is responsible for choosing the scholarship recipient(s) each year.
- Eligibility: Selection is based on whether the student has an affiliation with or is related to a Lupus Warrior, emphasizing the importance of supporting families impacted by the disease.
- Attendance Requirement: Recipients must be present at the “Walking the World Purple” Lupus Walk to receive the scholarship.
- Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
- Must have been accepted and registered for a 2–4-year college/university.
- Must submit an essay explaining why you should be selected as a scholarship recipient.

Honoring Latasha Ellis
Through this scholarship, we remember Latasha’s courage and dedication. Each year, as we gather for the Lupus Walk, we not only raise awareness for lupus but also celebrate the achievements and resilience of students who are connected to the lupus community.
How to Participate
High school seniors interested in the scholarship should participate in the “Walking the World Purple” Lupus Walk, share their connection to a Lupus Warrior, and submit your 500+ word essay to autumn.austin@colorsoflupusnevada.com. The Board of Directors will review all eligible candidates and announce the recipient(s) during the event.
Continuing Latasha’s Legacy
The Latasha Ellis Memorial Scholarship is more than financial support—it is a symbol of hope, remembrance, and encouragement for young individuals touched by lupus. We invite all eligible students and their families to join us each year as we walk together in Latasha’s honor and strive to make a difference in the fight against this disease.
